Who do I contact to remove a dead animal from the road?
If a dead animal is on a town road, village street, or city street, contact the town, village, or city.
You may report dead animals along state or county highways to us at (920) 386-3650 or by email. However, the Highway Department cannot pick up dead deer. We contract out for their removal on these roads and we send a list every day to the contractor. If there is paint on the deer, it has already been reported and you do not have to contact us.

Driveway
Do I need a permit to put a driveway in? New driveways on county roads require review and approval from the Highway Department. Driveway locations must adhere to the spacing regulations contained in the County's Highway Access Control Ordinance and fee schedule. This also applies for a change in the use of a driveway. For instance, changing a field entrance to a driveway for a new house requires a review and approval. A representative of the Highway Department will meet with each applicant to review the application form and the driveway location.
Please contact your town, city or village official for information about driveways on town roads or city and village streets.

Mowing
How often are roadsides mowed?
The County budget no longer provides sufficient funds to mow the roadsides along our county trunk highways from right-of-way to right-of-way. Therefore, until budget conditions improve, the mowing of county trunk highways shall be limited to a maximum of two mower widths along each side of the roadway unless special conditions warrant additional mowing.
Vision corners shall be mowed only when necessary to provide safe vision and may, at times, exceed two mower widths. If vision corners are depressed sufficiently below the road surface such that mature grass does not provide a vision problem, they shall not be mowed.
One-third of the roadways shall be mowed from right-of-way to right-of-way each year to control woody vegetation. Woody vegetation shall be removed from fill slopes when it reaches 3” in diameter or larger or on cut slopes within 50 feet of the edge of the travel lane for safety reasons.
Weeds will be mowed beyond two mower widths if complaints are received and the property owners are making an effort to control the weeds on their property.

Traffic Paint
How do I get traffic paint off my vehicle?
Paint used by Dodge County to paint yellow roadway centerlines and white edge lines is a waterborne acrylic and can be removed with a solution of hot water and ammonia (one cup ammonia per gallon of water) and soap. The area with paint on may have to be soaked multiple times until the paint softens so it can be wiped clean and rinsed. Our paint trucks are cleaned by this same process each fall. Note: Paint should be removed as soon as possible.
During the summer the county refreshes traffic markings on the highways. Some drivers try to get around our convoy and track over the wet lines, splattering paint onto their vehicles. When that happens, the drivers usually call us to solve the problem. Our crew travels at only 10-12 miles per hour and has signs mounted on the trucks to inform the public of "WET YELLOW PAINT" or "WET WHITE PAINT". Therefore, the County is not responsible for paint removal from vehicles that cross these lines.
