CIT is called in the event of any traffic accident involving a fatality or the likelihood a fatality will result or injuries under the classification of “great bodily harm”. A member of CIT will review the available information and determine if a response is needed. Once assigned to a case the team provides a detailed analysis of the mechanics of the crash along with supporting documentation relating to any contributing factors.
Members of the team receive specialized training including basic crash investigation, technical crash investigation phase 1 and 2, crash reconstruction, vehicle dynamics, grade crossing investigation, motorcycle crash investigation, crash data retrieval technician and analyst, crash zone phase 1 and 2, Vista FX3 and total station operation. They meet as a group every other month to review cases and share information on new technology and equipment.
