Home MenuGold Star Memorial Trail - Phase 2 Project Status
The majority of funding has been secured allowing for commencement of Design and Engineering, which started in June 2024. There are generally three main components remaining to navigate before the trail is open for biking and hiking use. The main components and their projected schedule are identified below:
- Design & Engineering (June 2024 – July 2025): Environmental, historical, archeological reviews, rights of way and property boundaries identification, topography, hazardous materials review, drainage issues and structures review, ag impacts review, subsurface investigations, public information meetings and more are part of this process to identify exact placement and specifications for construction.
- Real Estate / Acquisition/: (Fall 2024 – Summer 2025); Most of the trail is expected to be located within the current Hwy 33 Right of Way (ROW). Where the trail alignment can’t be in the ROW, permanent easements will be required. Some temporary easements will also be needed in some areas during construction.
- Construction: (Fall 2025/Spring 2026):
This project has received a federal Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) Grant of almost $1.1 million to assist with up to 80% of the costs of design and construction of this project. The Friends of Dodge County Parks, Inc. has pledged a minimum of $50,000 toward the local costs.
Additional grants and donations are still being sought to help offset the remaining local costs needed to complete the project. [How To Donate]
